Bridal Confidence – The elephant in the room

Weddings are a source of excitement and enjoy, admittedly there may be tense moments, families are a rich and diverse collection of people and on occasion may not blend together, but on the whole its against the grain to think that for some their wedding day just doesn’t conjure up quite the same thoughts of eternal elation.

The thought of posing in countless positions for photographs, to speaking in public about their undying love is enough to bring about a cold sweat and thoughts of eloping or in extreme conditions ‘calling it off’! Even the most confident bride can experience a wobble and may need alittle help to channel the beauty from within, because yes brides to be… you are all beautiful.

So whether you need a pep talk to get you going or to talk through how to stand or pose for the best pictures we have the experts on hand to help.

Two such ladies who understand the pressures of wedding planning and more importantly women are Susie Mackie and Dawn Swinley.

Susie Mackie is a wedding photographer who is passionate about photographing people. However Susie’s passionate goes deeper than just capturing your perfect day. Recognizing a need that some Brides needed a little boost she created My Sensuality  – a boudoir experience that she originally created for brides to be which revealed the beauty within, whilst giving brides an experience that they found liberating, confidence building, empowering and fun!  For some it has changed their lives forever, and for others they simply see themselves as others do – beautiful.

Susie says:

My style is timeless, emotional, and genuine; I capture your natural sensuality revealed through your eyes and body language, talking you through your poses and enabling you to feel truly liberated. To me, people are unique “living art” – the texture and tone, character and curve – and I celebrate this through my imagery.

My mission is to give you the confidence to feel good about all of you – from the inside out! If a very brief encounter with Penny and me at a My Sensuality shoot can empower you to feel good about yourself and love your images, then we have achieved what we set out to do!

Dawn Swinly is a nutrition and wellness coach , her business Mode-De-Vie provides a variety of solution’s to today’s modern women’s issues and her aim is to help you enjoy all that life can offer without you being burdened with unattractive and unnecessary body fat or health issues that drain your energy, ruin your looks and diminish your self-confidence.

Dawn says:

‘Many people don’t understand the power of nutrition and its impact on their mind, body and spirit. Or they think to be healthy, you have to live on rabbit food or starve yourself or not enjoy any treats. No Faddy Diets or Finger Pointing Here. What you will get is someone who is a qualified Nutritionist who understands what you need to feel amazing and it’s not starving yourself, being scolded or trying to sell you the next “Magic Bullet” to being slim.

So what have these two fabulous ladies who understand women been up to? and more importantly how can they help you!

Back On The Wagon

So my last post wasn’t filled with exciting weight loss news… although i had reevaluated where I was at and where I want to be. I also mentioned my  decision to invest in myself. Let me tell you more:

Diets…. are the mother of all evil. Period.

Why? because you follow this plan and achieve weight loss but it is simply not sustainable so any euphoria is relatively short lived. Age I have found is a massive determinant in weight. My younger self could ‘crash’ diet and lose 6 pounds just like that! my older (and wiser self!) has found that i could not eat and gain that in a matter of days.

I needed a lifestyle change so sort out Dawn Swinley of Mode De Vie. Known as The Drop a Dress Size Coach she is a nutrition and wellness coach and with over 10 years of expertise the perfect person to kick start my new lifestyle.

After our initial chat about my current lifestyle and some simple questionnaires later we have determined not only my body type but my bodys metabolism type. I now have a detailed step by step eating plan – and guess what – its REAL FOOD!! Ok don’t get me wrong its not all chocolate and cream and Im sure at some point i’ll get the diet blues but I am actually excited by the food and not by the weight loss.

Of course Christmas is just around the corner so we have decided to start introducing some of the foods into my diet (to get hubby used to them as I am not going to be cooking twice of an evening!) and am looking start  January 2017.

If your looking for a lifestyle change that allows you to meet not just your weight but health goals too then Dawns ya gal.

Oops…….Perhaps I should try Nil By Mouth?

So following on from my last blog post….. mmm ….. and thats it!

Things haven’t quite gone to plan… a variety of reasons which I won’t go into but the resounding theme is willpower….. well lack of it or at least my amazing ability to talk myself out of why i’ll start tomorrow and not today.

So how do you get your mojo back? Often we are so incentive driven that the thought of getting into that dress or for serious health gain is enough to see us to the finish line… normally this would be all I needed to kick start a new healthy regime but somehow this time its not.

Perhaps its the pressure of modern living? family life and generally lack of time? So ive taken some time out of worrying about it and this is what I have come up with:

  • I HATE scales…… unless you are weighing out cake ingredients they should be banned!
  • you can only change what you want to change – my mindset at that time was not where it needed to be
  • incentives don’t always work – priorities change, so whilst my younger pre-children self would have definitely worried about losing any additional weight my older, and poss wiser self? now doesn’t see this as top of the list instead replacing this with what is important to me now
  • things get harder when you get older…. FACT

So with this new found knowledge where do I go from here? Taking these points I have decided to invest in myself….. this may sound strange but I am after something sustainable not a quick fix …. therefore I need a lifestyle change.

Stay tuned for how I plan to be healthy in both body and mind and what local suppliers and resources I shall be utilizing to transform myself. And why following these steps mean you can be a beautiful bride or groom not just for that one special day but for your future together.

Wedding Weight Vs. Baby Weight

I know this is a wedding blog, those in the no are aware that I have a 6 month little girl, Ava who is just the cutest and most adorable bundle ever, but then i’m biased. I’m also mummy to Bella who is 3 going on 13 – i’m pretty sure I was told that it was the teenage years where the fun started not the toddler ones!

To be honest having my first child was a breeze, I was back in my skinny jeans within 3 weeks and seemed to shed any baby weight with a click of the fingers. However having my second child I just seem chubby and whatever I do it isn’t disappearing fast… well its just not disappearing at any rate.

It got me thinking to when I was getting married and although I wasn’t overweight, like all Brides I wanted to lose a few lbs to ensure I looked my absolute best on my wedding day… or it could have been because someone told me that pictures add pounds….who knows.

Thinking back, how I feel now is the same as those months in the run up to my wedding…. I feel chubby, tired, constantly worrying that my skin isn’t glowing and my hair is looking a bit lack lustre and that the tightness of my clothes make me look like Vicky Pollard.

So for all you Brides I shall be charting what I’m going to be getting up to over the next 8 weeks – yup I have given myself a two month deadline to shift the bulge (i need to lose one and a half stone to be my pre-pregnancy and wedding weight!)

I’ll be documenting what works and what doesn’t and using a variety of different methods to achieve my target weight.

Wish me luck, as a self confessed foodie this may be quite the battle………….
