Wedding Planning Series: HEN PARTY PART TWO: Afternoon Tea & Spa

Part two of hen party, I am proud to say was organised by Moi and well its alittle unoriginal.

With the unveiling of the new spa at Hatherley Manor what better way to check out the new spa. And well no spa day is complete without an Afternoon Tea either is it?!

We opted to have the afternoon tea first, booked into the restaurant at the main house we had a sumptuous tea of sandwiches, scones and yummy mini cheesecakes and torte slices. Accompanied with hot, fresh tea & coffee and of course the obligatory glass of prosecco!

The only slight downside being they weren’t 100% ready for us at the agreed time and a last minute addition of one person seemed to cause some confusion for the staff. However once ‘underway’ it was lovely.

After an hour of filling our tummies with yummy food we had over to the Spa, it’s a short walk from the main house round the side of the house to the new spa complex at the rear. Although it would be nice for an internal pathway which I’m sure is in the pipeline as the spa is so new (only open a month when we went!)

The hens had booked a variety of treatments from luxury nail manicures & pedicures through to the full body massage and exfoliation treatment.

I had booked the back, neck & shoulder massage – all the late nights creating wedding cakes meant I had some serious tension that needed sorting. My therapist was absolutely lovely, and whilst I’m an old hand at spa days, she explained everything that was going to happen, asked my preferences on the hardness of massage and temperature and checked the music was acceptable for my treatment.

A blissful 40 minutes was being spent kneaded back into shape and I felt so relaxed – I think I nearly nodded off!

After my treatment i was shown into the relaxation den – a gently lit room, soft music, with a number of single and double beds to literally just relax on  – have a glass of water, read a magazine and just ‘be’ it was wonderful.

The spa hosts a number of fabulous features, from a pool with adorning hot tub to sauna, terrarium, steam room and my fav – the experience shower! Choose from 3 wonderful setting including polar mist and tropical storm  – a variety of different water temps/flows/hardness and of course some pretty cool colour changing effects too.

Here’s what some of the hens had to say about their Hatherley Manor Spa experience:

A-little unprepared for us for the afternoon tea, but the Spa was all ready and expecting us – even the gowns were laid out ready! The spa was great and one of the better ones i’ve been to in terms of facilities.

My massage treatment was fab – would recommend going there

The spa was really nice

Loved the spa it was amazing, great range of facilities, my massage was one of the best I’ve had. Would definitely go again

Of course you must check out the spa for yourself but for now, here’s some pics:

Wedding Series Part 4: Photography

Photography….. one of the biggest spends and decisions that you will make along with the venue and the dress. And yes just to prove we’re human and we booked stationary before the photographer!

Wedding photography can be a mindfield. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful wedding photographers in the Cotswolds and as with many wedding suppliers once they are booked they are booked – so how to find one our happy couple clicked with, shot in a style they loved AND was available?!

First a short list was made – photographers i’ve been fortunate to work with or come to know personally via my alter ego – The Cheltenham Cakery. This was a substantial list! Next we added to this list after visiting a few wedding fayres. If I’m honest I chickened out here and let the couple go through each supplier, their photography style and packages to find their perfect fit.

The groom took the lead on this one and decided that whilst having a smaller, intimate wedding they liked the option of having a second photographer to ensure their special day was captured in full – this narrowed down the list. Next came looking at the portfolios – to find a ‘style’ of photography they both liked.

There are so many styles of photography and its essential that your chosen photographer will recreate the shots and feel of photography that you are expecting.

After much ‘research’ and chatting to photographers they decided to enlist the fabulous work of Capture Every Moment. Based in Cirencester, they are a lovely father and daughter team. Having worked and shot extensively at the couples chosen Venue and with the groom declaring ‘theres only one photo that i’ve seen that I don’t like’ (this was HUGE praise indeed!) i am looking forward to meeting Paul and Carissa this time at a wedding not just a wedding fayre  (don’t worry i’ve already begged for them to capture my best side)

Here’s hoping the couples complimentary pre-wedding shoot goes well and I am very much looking forward to seeing the final pics 🙂 if these pics taken by Carissa and Paul are anything to go by.

Venue Spotlight: Elmore Court

Let me take you back to the balmy summer nights which on warm breezes the scent of honeysuckle flows….. it seems like these midsummer nights were so long ago, but for those of you having weddings in summer 2018 I bet it feels like its around the corner.

Well it was on one of these beautiful evenings that I was invited to an exclusive event at Elmore Court. Its sad to say but its a venue I hadn’t actually been to before so i didn’t need asking twice!

Elmore Court (64)

Situated above the banks of the River Severn in Gloucestershire and with views across the Cotswolds, this stunning stately home has been lovingly passed down through the generations since the land was granted to the Guise family in 1274 by Henry III.

Reaching its current keeper Anselm Guise in 2007, Anselm and his family (who currently live on the estate) are passionate about preserving the property and the family’s long history, via extensive renovations they have assured this beautiful homes future and subsequently opened Elmore as an exclusive use wedding and events venue in 2013.

You’ll Love This Venue If

You love the comforts of modern entertaining but adore the original period influences that only 800 hundred years of history can bring. Take the ceremonies room as an example, wonderfully light and bright room but with feature fire places and one heck of a stained glass window!

Can my guests stay

Elmore offers a choice of 16 bedrooms with all mod cons which guests may utilize. Each bedroom has an equally stunning view across the surrounding countryside too. Perfect for today’s modern families, allowing you to all gather under one roof and reconnect without the worries of time pressures  – and the added bonus of being able to catch up again at breakfast the following morning.

This is in addition to the ‘Coach House’ a purpose built 2/3 bedroom property, situated a stones throw from the main house and offering Brides and their maids the chance to hide away the night before the big day.

How many guests can it hold?

The great hall is the perfect place for ceremonies and able to hold 200 guests, whilst dining capacity is at a healthy 250 in the purpose built Gillyflower (what an awesome name!)

Elmore Court (8)

The Gillyflower is essentially a purpose built party pad – care has been taken to ensure that this addition is practical yet unobtrusive to the rest of the venue – its meadow roof allows it to blend seamlessly into Elmore’s perfectly kept grounds.  As for noise pollution, the state of the art sound system and sound proofing means you can party your hardest to the wee small hours without fear of upsetting the neighbours.

Did I mention that the Gillyflower has a wonderful outside area with fire pit!

Why chose this venue

Aside from its exclusive use, meaning it is yours for the duration – the house, Gillyflower, coach house and meadows,  it offers couples and their guests all the home comforts that you could want alongside original period features making this venue super special and unique not to mention a photographers dream.  Anselm and the team here are on hand 24/7 and from the event they through for us they certainly know how to party!

Here are some additional pictures to swoon over:

Immortalizing your Wedding Flowers – the Modern Way

If there is one regret I have from my wedding, it is not preserving something, anything of the gorgeous florals that my fabulous florist created. The bouquet I designed in my mind that she lovingly created for me lives on in my memories and of course photographs. I  shall not forget the scent or the vividity of colours and in deed my flowers are still one of the memories that my guests still talk about today (my bouquet was a work of art!)

il_570xN.1145144074_9cp1

But the one thing I truly wish I had factored into my planning was how to preserve this segment of our special day – sadly i was not organised enough to arrange to have them whisked away to be dried and captured in frame, or set into a paperweight (i’m really not a paperweight kind of gal anyways)

So after a Sunday morning scroll with a latte through Instagram I came across this gem, Buttonsy Jewellery, now it has to be pretty special for me to spill a drop of liquid gold, but I did, and here’s why.

Buttonsy Jewellery provide couples with the alternative to freeze dried frames and paperweights they can set your wedding florals in jewellery – think bangles, necklaces and rings (please consider cuff links tho for the guys!) What I love about this idea is that the flowers do not in any way resemble the ‘dried flower’ look, no muted tones and flakey petals here! They look almost as real captured in the resin designs as they will have done on your day. Its the perfect memento, thank you gift and perhaps future heirloom

Here’s the dried bouquet and the finished bangle piece……….. perfection

So if your getting married or just want to check out some serious swoon worthy jewellery head on over to Buttonsy and be amazed and in awe of Anna’s beautiful craftsmanship. In fact i’m heading over now to browse (swoon) some more.

Happy Planning
